Overview

The Youth Civic Leadership & Community Program is a youth-led civic engagement and leadership development initiative designed to empower young people ages 11–18 to become informed, engaged, and influential leaders within their schools, neighborhoods, and communities. Grounded in Positive Youth Development principles, the program helps youth understand how decisions are made, how systems impact their daily lives, and how they can use their voices to create positive change. Through civic education, community organizing, advocacy, leadership development, service-learning, and youth-led action projects, participants develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to address issues affecting their communities. Youth identify issues that matter most to them, conduct research, engage stakeholders, develop solutions, and participate in activities that strengthen civic participation, community leadership, and public engagement. The program incorporates civic literacy and voter education activities that help youth understand the electoral process, the importance of civic participation, and the impact of local, state, and national elections on their communities. During election years, eligible participants receive nonpartisan voter registration assistance through the iRegister initiative and are educated on voter rights, responsibilities, election processes, and informed civic participation. Youth engage in educational activities focused on understanding ballot measures, government structures, public policy issues, and the role of voting in strengthening communities and democracy. All voter education and registration activities are conducted in a nonpartisan manner and are designed to encourage informed, active citizenship.
